![]() ![]() ![]() Players often use this effect by building large structures, such as towns or bases, with multiple integrated houses to serve as their safe haven. With at least three town NPCs nearby, enemies generally cease spawning on or near the visible screen (except in Expert Mode or Master Mode). NPCs can reduce enemy spawn rates in the area, a phenomenon that increases with the number of NPCs present. However, NPCs will not move into a house if time freeze is enabled while playing Journey mode. Each NPC requires its own dedicated house, with the exception that a pet and non-pet NPC may share a house. They occupy structures provided by the player, known as houses, which are generally necessary for town NPCs to remain available. Most NPCs are town NPCs, appearing after players achieve various milestones in game progression. Some NPCs also offer additional functions. Town NPCs typically sell items to players in exchange for coins and can purchase items from players to obtain coins. The majority of NPCs function as vendors, displaying their shop inventory when the "Shop" option is selected. When standing near an NPC, pressing the Interact button (⚷) opens a dialogue window with one or more options for the player to choose from.
